Slayer - World Painted Blood - Album Review

SLAYER!!!!!!! Not only does Slayer have the funnest band name to yell at any concert, they are comparable to that old piece shit car that has 250,000 miles on it and runs better then it did ten years ago. With a career that spans the better part of three decades, World Painted Blood proves that Slayer might not be hanging up the ol' axe anytime soon. At least they shouldnt. Slayer would still be the illest band around even if they are sporting adult diapers and cruising in hovarounds.

World Painted Blood has a slightly more "classic" Slayer sound to it. Yet, the album is more comparable to God Hates Us All and Christ Illusion. The first thing that stands out is the production. This album sounds flat out stellar. This is easily one of the best sounding records of 2009 and the best mix I have heard from a Slayer album since Reign In Blood. The album opens with the title track, and this song is nothing short of masterful. "World Painted Blood" is fast, groovy, and more importantly...fucking pissed! "Snuff" is an instant favorite of my own simply do to the fact that it opens with an asshole puckering solo. Its not to often that a song starts on a solo. Classic thrash.

Slayer pretty much stick to their swords on this new record, but they were able to work in some new sounds to keep us on our toes. For instance, a few of Tom's vocal tracks have a different yet effective twist, adding an element of singing/talking. Which probably would make any person reading this think "Oh great, selling out and going gay." Trust me, it works. Also, King and Hannemen really got creative on some of their solos. A few of them were so bad ass, they left me standing their looking down to the floor at my balls rolling away and collecting carpet fuzz. Oh, and I almost forgot, Lombardo is still god. Just listen to "Public Display Of Dismemberment."

World Painted Blood does have its moments of, "eehh," but generally speaking, this latest edition to their music catalog is totally Slaytanic. For a moment, lets pretend its 1988 and that "Americon" is our new national anthem as we all bang our heads like the dirty burn outs we are. All hail SLAYER!

Score 7.5/10
